Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture

Like traditional acupuncture, the cosmetic version is virtually painless and also aims to balance the body’s energy and create a sense of well-being. Its holistic approach appeals to clients who want to slow the signs of aging, but don’t want to undergo surgery or inject chemicals. Using extra fine acupuncture needles on specific points on the face to enhance beauty and preserve a youthful appearance has been done for centuries in China, but it has just started to become popular in the U.S. in the past decade or so. Chinese Medicine can be utilized as a powerful anti-aging tool as it actually strengthens the organs, which in turn is reflected on the face.

"I regret taking such good care of my skin."  -said no one ever

At AcuHealth we offer a unique tandem treatment of a botanical facial in conjunction with facial acupuncture.  Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture is best done in a series of 10 treatments. The effects become most noticeable and lasting around the seventh treatment.  By inserting extra fine facial needles into the desired area of concern, the production of healing collagen is encouraged. The goal is to create this collagen under the skin to help fill in wrinkles and plump skin, similar to the results of Botox and fillers. Unlike injectables, acupuncture works to improve the look of the entire face and not just certain spots.

While cosmetic acupuncture patients shouldn’t expect the immediate, dramatic results they might see with other treatments, they do report seeing some changes rather quickly. A 1996 study published in the International Journal of Acupuncture said that, “Of 300 patients surveyed 90% said they saw lessening of lines, clearer skin tone, and subtle tightening.”  Acupuncture facials improve circulation, unblock stuck energy, and can release muscle tension. Dr. Richard G. Glogau, a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at University of California, San Francisco, said these changes are quite possible. “It’s obvious that people carry around a lot of muscle tension in their face, which gives them frowns and wrinkles and my take is that the acupuncture is producing relaxation in the muscles.”

Before using drugs, fillers, or surgery, consider cosmetic facial acupuncture.  It is a safe, effective, and natural alternative to more costly or invasive options.  It will help your whole body look and feel younger!

Gua Sha Treatments

Not so long ago, facial acupuncture seemed completely fringe. But Eastern medicine-based skin care, including cupping on the face, has been gaining traction and acceptance as an all-natural approach with the added oomph of thousands of years of practice behind it (i.e. it really works) — and the latest practice on the verge of going mainstream in the U.S. is facial gua sha.

A Mind Like Sky

Meditation comes alive through a growing capacity to release our habitual entanglement in the stories and plans, conflicts, and worries that make up the small sense of self, and to rest in awareness. In meditation, we do this simply by acknowledging the moment-to-moment changing conditions—the pleasure and pain, the praise and blame, the litany of ideas and expectations that arise. Without identifying with them, we can rest in the awareness itself, beyond conditions, and experience what my teacher Ajahn Chah called jai pongsai, our natural lightness of heart.

Modern Medicine, God Particles, and Ayn Rand. Oh My.

Ever wonder why so many people are so sick with so many different chronic and debilitating conditions? I do. In fact, I think about it all the time. Much of the last several years has been spent interacting with individuals who are ill, sometimes desperately ill. For these individuals, modern medicine has failed and failed miserably. Indeed, many have been cast out of traditional medicine altogether, their illnesses deemed too complex to solve. For all its technical sophistication, modern medicine falls decidedly short when it comes to the complexity of functional illness.
